CHURCHES TOGETHER

Churches together in Effingham and Little Bookham (CTELB) is an ecumenical group consisting of the Roman Catholic Church of Our Lady of Sorrows, Effingham Methodist Chapel and the Anglican Parish of Effingham with Little Bookham. During the year, various events are held to encourage ALL the Christians in Effingham and Little Bookham to work together.

As St Paul explains:

12 Just as a body, though one, has many parts, but all its many parts form one body, so it is with Christ. 13 For we were all baptized by one Spirit so as to form one body—whether Jews or Gentiles, slave or free—and we were all given the one Spirit to drink. 14 Even so the body is not made up of one part but of many.

1 Corinthians 12: 12- 14 (NIV)

The CTELB committee meets regularly to pray together and encourage each other, whilst planning future events. These events include regular Charity Film Nights, Christmas Carol Singing, Hot Cross Bun distribution as well as distributing Christmas and Easter Cards to the villages. On the 5th Sunday of the month, the Anglicans and Methodists meet together for an ecumenical communion service. Once a year, all three parishes celebrate at a Songs of Praise service. CTELB has also played a part in the Living Nativity and Living Easter events.

During the year, three particular groups meet under the auspices of CTELB:

Messy Church

Messy Church takes place in St Lawrence Church Hall on the first Wednesday of the month between 3.30pm  and 5.30pm. Messy Church is a form of church for children and adults that involves creativity, celebration and hospitality. It is aimed primarily at children under the age of 10.

It is primarily for people who don’t already belong to another form of church but it is open to everyone. It includes a welcome; a long creative time to explore the biblical theme through getting messy; a short celebration with prayer and songs and a sit-down tea for the children.

Its aim is to introduce Jesus, to give an opportunity to encounter Him and to grow closer to Him.

They provide refreshments, friendship, activities, support and fun for everyone. They also arrange outings to local places of interest.  You don’t have to live in Effingham to join in!
